About

The cabinet nobody gives any air

Denver Sub-Zero Repair Pros is an independent shop, and what it is for is the refrigeration that lives inside joinery: Sub-Zero wine cabinets and columns, undercounter refrigerators, drawers and beverage centres, across the south-east of Denver.

A wine cabinet is not a small refrigerator. It holds a narrow band rather than a cold one, often in two zones that argue with each other, and it does it from inside a cupboard built round it after the fact — with a plinth across the grille, a counter over the top and cabinetry on both sides. Everything that goes wrong with one is either a sensor that has stopped telling the truth or air that cannot get where it needs to go.

Then there is the city. The air here is dry enough for most of the year to take a door seal years early; in June the cottonwood puts a felt blanket across every condenser at floor level; and from midsummer the evaporative coolers put the humidity back and warm the rooms these cabinets stand in. That is why the readings come before the quote here, and why there is no form on this site — you get a person, or you pick your own slot. Working in Denver since 2014.

The visit

How a call runs, start to finish

  1. Tell us the model and what the cabinet is doing

The rating plate is inside the door frame. That number, plus whether the drift is one zone or the whole cabinet, usually narrows the fault before anyone leaves. Call, or take a slot yourself on the booking page at any hour.

  2. A visit that ends in a diagnosis

Zones read with an independent probe, thermistors and the circulation fan metered, the condenser looked at behind the grille, and the sealed system put under gauges only where the readings point there. That is what the $89 buys.

  3. A band, then a firm number

You are told which published band the work falls in and the exact figure inside it, before anything is opened or ordered. Where a repair no longer makes sense on that cabinet, you hear that instead of a quote.

  4. Repaired, then proved on the shelf

The cabinet is run back down to its setting and the probe readings are shown to you before anyone leaves. Plinths, grilles and panels go back square.

Where the number comes from

One flat $89 pays for somebody to arrive and read the cabinet properly; approve the repair and that $89 leaves the bill again.

What follows is a single figure for parts and labour, settled with you before anybody starts — no rate per hour, and no estimate that grows once the panel is off. Every one of those figures comes out of a band you can read first: what each repair costs.

What we do not take on

  • Cooking equipment — ranges, ovens, cooktops and hoods. Another trade, other parts, other training.
  • Laundry, dishwashers and countertop appliances.
  • Cellar split systems and whole-room wine cooling. This shop works on cabinets and columns.
  • A diagnosis over the telephone, dressed up as advice. Guessing costs a customer more than a visit does.
  • Opening a sealed system on a cabinet where the honest answer is that it has come to the end.
