Cost of an evaporator or condenser fan on a wine unit
Parts and labour, fitted
$330–$720
A firm number from inside this range, agreed with you before anything is opened or ordered.
Either fan on a Sub-Zero wine cabinet falls in the $330–$720 band: the one behind the grille that throws heat out of the machine compartment, and the one inside that moves chilled air over the racks. Denver Sub-Zero Repair Pros establishes which has gone by measuring what it draws, because a fan that is merely loud and a fan that has stopped pulling its weight sound much the same.
What the figure covers
- Which fan, settled by measurement
- Current draw at each motor rather than a judgement made by ear, so the fan that is replaced is the one that has actually failed.
- The motor and what it turns
- A factory-approved motor with its blade or impeller, balanced and seated the way it came out; a bent blade makes a new motor sound as bad as the old one.
- The grille or plinth off and back
- Access on a cabinet built into joinery is most of the labour, and the panel goes back square with its clearances kept.
- The condenser cleaned while it is open
- Soft brush and vacuum, always in the direction of the fins and never a chemical, because the two faults arrive together in this city and there is no sense fitting a new fan in front of a furred coil.
Before any of it
One flat $89 pays for somebody to arrive and read the cabinet properly; approve the repair and that $89 leaves the bill again.
Decline the repair and the visit is the whole of what you have paid. There is no hourly meter and nothing is ordered on an estimate.
What puts a job at the top of the band
- An interior fan behind a moulded rear panel, which has to come out before anything can be unbolted
- A cabinet that must be walked out of a finished run to reach the machine compartment
- A condenser so packed that the coil needs stripping before the new fan is worth fitting
What keeps it at the bottom
- A condenser fan reachable straight through the grille with the plinth off
- A unit standing clear on its own feet with room to work behind it
Three questions people ask about this one
Is a noisy fan something to deal with quickly?
Worth looking at, yes. A motor that has started to rattle or hum is usually telling you its bearing is going, and a condenser fan that stops leaves the compressor rejecting heat into a closed compartment. The cabinet will hold its setting for a while and then stop holding it, often on the hottest week of the year.
Will cleaning the condenser save the fan?
It lengthens its life rather than rescuing a motor already on the way out. Sub-Zero asks for a soft bristle brush and a vacuum, worked in the direction of the fins, every three to six months on the older wine cabinets and every six to twelve on the current ones. Do that and the fan is not fighting a blocked coil.
Which fan makes the top rack go warm?
The one inside. Circulation is what keeps a compartment even, so when the interior fan slows the cold settles low and the shelf nearest the door drifts up first. A failing condenser fan shows differently: the whole cabinet struggles, runs long and never quite reaches its setting. Ring (720) 790-9436 and both get read.

Water kept collecting under the crisper drawers of our column. Plugged drain, and a gasket gone stiff from the dry winter air. Both dealt with in one visit, though booking took the best part of a week.

The lower zone got so cold that a couple of bottles pushed their corks. A thermistor was reading several degrees off, so the cooler just kept running. He swapped it and verified both zones by hand.

Freezer drawers stopped closing flush and a rim of frost built up around the opening. Hinge had sagged and one corner of the seal was crushed. Adjusted and replaced, with no upsell attempted.
