What repairs cost · Denver, CO

Cost to fix a wine zone that reads right and sits wrong

Parts and labour, fitted

$280–$680

A firm number from inside this range, agreed with you before anything is opened or ordered.

A zone whose panel and whose bottles disagree is usually a sensor, and that work sits in the $280–$680 band. Denver Sub-Zero Repair Pros reads both compartments against an independent probe first, because a display can only repeat what its sensor tells it, and a zone can sit degrees off for a season without the panel ever admitting to it.

A thermometer probe being placed on the wooden shelf of a bottle-filled wine cabinet while the other hand holds the digital readout

What the figure covers

Both zones read against a probe
An independent thermometer on the shelf in each compartment, compared with what the panel is claiming, before any part is named.
The sensor metered, not swapped
The suspect sensor is measured at a known temperature rather than replaced on a hunch, which is what keeps a sensor job from turning into a board job.
The replacement in its right place
A sensor reads the air where it sits, so it goes back in the position it was designed for and is clipped down rather than left hanging.
The cabinet run back down
The zone is brought to its setting and read again on the probe in front of you, so the fix is shown rather than described.

Before any of it

One flat $89 pays for somebody to arrive and read the cabinet properly; approve the repair and that $89 leaves the bill again.

Decline the repair and the visit is the whole of what you have paid. There is no hourly meter and nothing is ordered on an estimate.

What puts a job at the top of the band

  • A sensor sitting behind a fixed interior panel rather than clipped where it can be reached
  • Both zones out, which turns one part into two and doubles the proving run
  • A cabinet that has to come out of its run before the loom can be followed

What keeps it at the bottom

  • A sensor reachable from inside the compartment with the racks out
  • One zone affected, caught while the other is still holding its setting

Three questions people ask about this one

How do I know it is the sensor and not the cooling?

By reading the zone rather than the display. A cabinet that is genuinely not cooling gets warmer everywhere and keeps running; a sensor reading low holds one zone a few degrees off while the rest of the cabinet behaves and the panel looks perfectly content. The probe settles it in minutes.

Can I recalibrate the zones myself?

Not in the sense of correcting a sensor. The controls adjust in one-degree steps, so you can move a setting, but nothing on the panel changes what the sensor is reporting. Moving the set point to chase a warm shelf only hides the drift, and the cabinet works harder for it.

What should the two zones actually be holding?

Sub-Zero publishes a wine storage range of 39°F to 65°F, with the zones preset at 45°F and 55°F and adjustable a degree at a time. Where you set them is taste; what matters is that a shelf thermometer agrees with the panel. If it does not, ring (720) 790-9436 and have it read.

  • Wine column would not hold below the low sixties whatever we set it to. He put gauges on it, found a restriction in the sealed system, and told me plainly that it was the bigger job. Steady since.

    Wren I.University Hills

  • Our clear ice turned white and hollow, then production dropped away. A pinched supply line behind the cabinet, plus a filter well past due. Both sorted, though he arrived late in the window.

    Bridget H.Platt Park

  • Wine unit was warm at the top and the cabinet around it was hot to the touch. Whoever installed it had blocked the exhaust. He opened the plinth up, cleaned the condenser, both zones settled.
